That’s right. All across Manchester, groups of people that want to do something positive to help their local environment are being offered the cash to help make it happen.
Greening Greater Manchester (GGM) is a scheme which uses landfill tax credits to support worthwhile environmental projects across the UK. It’s already helped hundreds of dreams to become a reality. From Stretford to Shaw, Wythenshawe to Walkden all kinds of projects have made the streets, parks and green spaces around us a better and healthier place to be – almost £4.5 million has been awarded in the past nine years and your project could be next.
It really can happen for your idea! If there’s a group with a ‘green’ vision, we want to hear about it.
GGM aims to provide grants to support community groups and environmental organisations with local projects that are particularly innovative, of lasting community and environmental benefit and improve quality of life. Aftercare and long-term management is vital and GGM encourages project proposals that include a plan to make the project a long-term asset.
Ian MacArthur, Regional Director, Groundwork Northwest said: “Green spaces are incredibly important to local community wellbeing. Groundwork is all about projects that make a real difference in local neighbourhoods, so we look forward to seeing some exciting ideas.”
