Greening Greater Manchester (GGM) is a partnership that works together to ensure the funding makes most impact on the ground. The partners are:
Groundwork Northwest
Groundwork Northwest supports communities in need, working with partners to help improve the quality of people's lives, their prospects and potential and the places where they live, work and play. Groundwork is a leading environmental charity in the region, delivering over 1200 regeneration projects each year. Groundwork manages the GGM programme.
Biffaward
GGM is funded by Biffaward, a multi-million pound environmental fund managed by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts, which uses landfill tax credits donated by Biffa Waste Services.
Greater Manchester Waste Disposal Authority (GMWDA)
The GMWDA is the statutory waste authority for the majority of Greater Manchester. Under the regulations of the Landfill Communities Fund, the authority has the role of third party contributor to GGM which involves it making a 10 percent contribution.
Biffa Waste Services
Biffa Waste Services Ltd is one of the largest single suppliers of waste management services in the UK. It collects, treats, recovers and disposes of municipal, commercial and industrial waste nationwide.
Red Rose Forest
Red Rose Forest is helping to transform a large part of Greater Manchester into a greener, better place to live, work and invest in. Red Rose Forest creates new areas of woodland, helping to improve existing green spaces and encouraging thousands of people every year to visit their local park, woodland, nature reserve or community garden.
Local authorities
Local authorities and local councillors play an important role in GGM. We are keen to make sure that all projects funded complement other initiatives in the area so we receive guidance from those with local knowledge.
Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary Organisation (GMCVO)
GMCVO is the voluntary and community sector infrastructure organisation for the sub-region of Greater Manchester. The organisation's aim is to strengthen the voluntary and community sector, build bridges with other sectors, and influence local and national policy. GMCVO helps to ensure that news about funding is directed towards a wide network of relevant organisations and that we do all we can to help small organisations through the funding process.
Environment Agency
The Environment Agency is the leading public body for protecting and improving the environment in England and Wales and fills one of the three independant seats on the GGM Steering Group.
The partners work together on a Steering Group that approves funding applications and guides the administration of the scheme.
